As a country Spain might look small on the world map but it has many distinct cities and locales that have carved out their own reputation. To be honest, this country needs multiple visits to be completely explored. You need time to peer through the rich Spanish fabric.

  • Barcelona: Barcelona is known across the world for its football (soccer) team and fashion. However, once you visit this Catan region, the architecture alone will blow you away. The most noteworthy architectural marvels include Park Güell and Antoni Gaudi’s Familia. You can also find an entire city quadrant dedicated to Gothic architecture.
  • Madrid: Madrid is the capital of Spain and also an excellent hub for fashion. The home of the most successful football club in the world, this region is diamond among random gems. The ‘city of grand boulevards’ houses some of the top museums and art galleries in the country. You can visit the Royal Palace here and also walk through old neighbourhoods like Chueca and La Latina.
  • Seville: Seville or Sevilla is known for its Moorish traits that it holds on to even today. The Giralda and Alcázar towers are a testament to that statement. This city in the region of Andalusia is the mecca of Flamenco culture and it also hosts the grand Feria de Abril spring fair. The Santa Cruz neighbourhood sits at the heart of this region and is a must visit for first timers.
  • Valencia: You can visit Valencia while exploring the eastern coast of the country. It houses the unique City of Arts and Science Complex. It is an unbelievably imaginative piece of architecture and deserves all the praise that it gets. There are quite a few beaches in this town and all have golden sandy shores with crystal clear waters. This is also the birthplace of Paella.
  • Granada: Another Andalusian city worth visiting as it houses the Alhambra Palace which is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. That’s not all, Granada also houses the famous yet quaint Albaicin neighbourhood with its winding narrow streets. You must try the tapas here as they are delectable.
  • Toledo: Often called the ‘city of three cultures’, Toledo is home to many Jews, Christians and Muslims. The Alcázar Fortress along with its Cathedral down at the main square is another UNESCO World Heritage Site that you cannot miss. You will find a lot of history in this region, that too from multiple cultures.
  • Malaga: Malaga is a great place to unwind and relax, courtesy of its large and beautiful beaches. Art buffs can rejoice as it is the birthplace of the famous Pablo Picasso. The Picasso Museum in Malaga was once home to the great artist and still houses some of his best work.
