This remarkable sculpture park which consists of around 500 concrete figures and all of them were sculpted by the late Veijo Ronkkonen. Nestled in the Finnish town of Parikalla, close to the Russia border.
Veijo Ronkkonen who is the major artist behind the creation of this park was a humble press worker and an artist. He started to work on this unique park when he was just 16 years old.
Moreover, years later when he received his first pay check he purchased ten apple tree seedlings and a bag of concrete to create an astounding garden around his family home. And for the next 50 years of his life he dedicatedly devoted all his free time and money in planting flowers and trees and created hundreds of caricature like sculptures mostly if human figures sized.
Ronkkonen worked on various themes and numerous of his sculpture where shows doing individual works but there is a particular section in the park which features 250 figures in different yoga postures. Currently, this park is a major tourist attraction in Finland and attracts large number of tourists every year.
The park not just attracts tourists but it is the most important set of pieces of contemporary folk art of Finland. The most interesting aspect of the sculptures created by Veijo Ronkkonen is their facial expressions which are made from concrete and are really scary.
