This Glass Beach in California has No Sand But Sea Glasses
This sparkling sea glass beach is the bizarre yet interesting side effect of the years of wastes being dumped on the beach. Until the 1960s, the dumping of garbage was stopped and till then the sea became full of various things like electrical appliances to bottles and cans. Located in MacKerricher State Park close to Fort Bragg, California, there are three Glass Beach Sites where huge amount of scrap was dumped into the ocean from 1906 to 1967. These sites are easily reachable by foot and next to a short back down the cliffs surrounding the beach.
At present, the beach witnesses arrivals of around 10,000 tourists every year. Every day on summer, around 1,000 to 1,200 tourists visit Fort Bragg's glass beaches. Despite collecting is discouraged on the Glass Beach, most of them collect some glasses. As this is a natural factor, the glass is gradually diminishing.
