India is Ready to Welcome First Engineless Train – Train 18

Indian Railways will soon launch a swanky made in India first engine less train which is named Train 18. It is believed that this train will hit the railway tracks from October 29, 2018. IRCTC will begin the trial of Train 18 from October end and the estimated cost of this engine less train is approx 100 crore. This train can run at 160 kmph speed and has a quirky interiors which will surely impress the travelers. Train 18, India’s first engineless train is regarded as a successor to the 30 years old Shatabdi Express. It is said that this engineless train will run faster than even Shatabdi Express.

First Self Propelled Train

Engineless train named Train 18 is the first train which is concenptualised, manufactured and designed in a manner that it does not need a locomotive and it also looks like bullet train.

Train 18 is built for a quick travel on Shatabdi Express routes like Chennai-Bengaluru, Delhi-Bhopal and Mumbai-Ahmedabad. This sixteen coach train has all the modern amenities and it can also save the travel time by 10-15%. The train has better acceleration system than the other conventional train as the train has 50% more power which is equipped with smart braking. The system of this train consists of regenerative and electro-pneumatic braking which is imported from Hungary.

Facts About Engineless Train – Train 18

Train 18 is developed by Chennai based Integral Coach Factory in 18 months and is designed in a manner that the passengers in the train can see the driver’s cabin easily

Before running properly on the tracks a trial will be conducted for 3-4 days outside the factory and after that the train will be handed over to RDSO (Research Design & Standards Organisations)

Train 18 is fitted with CCTV cameras and it have two executive compartments with 52 seats each and the trailer coaches will have 78 seats each

The footstep in this train’s coach slides outward when this train stops at a station enabling the passengers to get down comfortably. The footstep in this engineless train adjust to the variation in height between the platform and train’s floor
