The great Mughal Emperor Akbar instructed the construction of the Agra Fort in the year 1565 A.D., while several additions were made until the time of his grandson Shah Jahan. It is made in the form of crescent, compacted on the east with a long, straight wall facing the river. This massive fort has a perimeter of about 2.4 Kilometers, which is bounded by double castellated ramparts of red sandstone punctuated at regular intervals by bastions. Some of the significant architectures inside this huge fort are, the Moti Masjid (a white marvel mosque), Diwan-e-Khaas, Diwan-e-Am, Khaas Mahal, Jehangir's Palace, Shish Mahal and Musamman or Samman Burj, where Shahjahan was held imprisoned by Aurangzeb in 1666 A.D.
