The road connectivity in the North East will going to see a major transformation as Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the country’s longest bridge in Assam .The Dhola-Sadiya Bridge is started to change the road connectivity especially for the two states of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.
This modern structure is constructed over Lohit, a tributary of the Brahmaputra that will connect Dhola in Assam to Sadiya in Arunachal Pradesh by reducing the travel time between the two states as much as by five hours.
"The bridge will fill a huge connectivity gap that has existed in the region. Till now, the only means to cross the Brahmaputra at this location has been by ferry only in day- time and even this was not possible during floods," the Ministry of Shipping said in a statement.
The The Bhupen Hazarika Setu (Dhola–Sadiya Bridge) is longer than Mumbai’s iconic Sea Link and is designed to ease out the movement of heavy vehicles. The bridge will be of good use to the army as it is capable of holding the weight of 60 battle tanks.
This new, three lane, 9.15 kilometer bridge has been constructed at the cost of about Rs. 2,056 crore with the usage of the state of the art equipment such as hydraulic rigs along with seismic buffers to withstand any natural disaster.
The total length of the bridge project, including the approach roads on each side, is 28.50 km. The length of the bridge itself is 9.15 km respectively.
