Lonar Lake is located in the small town of Buldhana which is in the district of Maharashtra. It was formed after a meteor crashed around 52,000 years ago. It is said that the meteor weighed approximately 2 million tonnes which lead to leaving such an impact.

The world’s only floating post office is located in Kashmir’s famous Dal Lake. Started during the British Rule, this post office is still functioning and delivers letters to the local people.

Karni Mata temple or the “Temple of Rats” is located at Deshnoke in the city of Bikaner – Rajasthan. The temple is dedicated to Goddess Karni Mata who transforms into rats called kabbas. The temple has 20,000 black rats. It is a sin to trample the rats.

4. Oldest City – Varanasi

According to Hindu Mythology, Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh is said to be the oldest inhabited city in the world. It was founded by Lord Shiva around 5000 years old. Varanasi is also considered as the holiest city as the river Ganga flows through it.

With an annual rainfall of 11,871 millimetre, Mawsynram in the state of Meghalaya, is the wettest place in the world. The daily workers wear full-body umbrellas made from bamboo and banana leaf when they work outside. You can also spot living bridges which are very fascinating.

India is home to the world’s highest cricket ground. The Chail Cricket Ground is located at a height of 2144 meters. Built-in the year 1893, by the Maharaja of Patiala, the cricket ground rests at 7500 ft above sea level and is surrounded by dense and mesmerizing deodar forests.

Majuli an island in the Brahmaputra River, is the world’s largest river island in the world. With an expanse of 352 square kilometers, it was made to be the first district in India. It is said to be a beautiful island on the Brahmaputra River.

Shani Shungnapur a village in the Ahmednagar district in Maharashtra, does not have any doors or locks for their houses or shops. It is said that around 300 years ago, after a flood, the locals of the village found a black rock. When it was touched, blood started to come out. Later that night, the head of the village had a dream where Lord Shani directed him to make a shrine under his name and in return, he would protect the village from any ill or harm under the pretext that it should have any roof so he could guard it. So, this was passed on and the village still follows this.

9. Cleanest Village of India – Meghalaya

India is home to the cleanest village in the world. The village is called Mawlynnong in Mehgalaya. Discover India magazine declared the village as cleanest in Asia in 2003 and cleanest in India in 2005. The village is located in the East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya. The village is located at a distance of 90 km from Shillong, capital of Meghalaya.
