However, Devgad is majorly known for its unadulterated Alphonso mango cultivation. Alphonso is one of the most expensive as well as finest varieties of mangoes. The mangoes are grown mainly in the western part of India including Sindhudurg, Raigad and Ratnagiri districts. Alphonsoes are often referred to as ‘Hapus’ in Maharashtra and Gujarat states. Also, they are used to make sweets, smoothies, candies and mango drinks. The mango can also be consumed directly after ripe and a favorite fruit in India during summers.

Kesar, Junagadh

There are very few towns in the state of Gujarat which offer the diversity similar to that Junagadh offers to its visitors. Much of the attractions of this town has been ruined through the time but there is several well-maintained by the government and is open for public as well as tourists to see. The best thing to know is that Junagadh is the place where ‘the Queen of Mangoes, Kesar’, is cultivated and distributed throughout the country.

Langra, Varanasi

Varanasi, also known as Banaras is laced on the banks of River Ganga in the state of Uttar Pradesh and is believed to be one of the oldest cities in the world. It is often called as the ‘Religious Capital of India’ and has been the cultural centre of the country since many years. Varanasi is amongst the most significant pilgrimage destinations in India and visited by devotees all around the year. The delicious variety of mango- ‘Langra’ or ‘Malda’ is cultivated at this town.

Chaunsa, Kurukshetra

Kurukshetra literally means ‘the field of righteousness’ is not only responsible for mythological history and Bhagvad Gita, but also as a major place of cultivation of another famous variety of mango- ‘Chaunsa’. It is the place where the historic battle of Mahabharata took place between the Kauravas and the Pandavas. Kurukshetra is a sacred place for Hindus and is flocked by many pilgrims and tourists all round the year.

Badami, Bagalkot


Badami is the most popular mango variety of the state of Karnataka. It is mostly referred as the own Alphonso of the state. The taste and texture of this mango variety is almost similar to Alphonso. This is the reason; it is beinng liked by a huge number of people. The variety of mango got its name from the Badami city of Karnataka. The best season to find Badami Mango is from April to June.

Safeda, Banganapalle

Another popular name of Safeda Mango is Banganapalli. These mangoes are grown in the state of Andhra Pradesh and are yellow in color with while tinge. These mangoes are fibreless and mostly used in making shakes. Safeda mangoes are huge in size and weights around 350 gm per piece. These are available between last week of March and June.

Totapuri, South India

This is a unique variety of mango that is huge in size and appears like parrot. It is having a pointed end and thick skin. The Totapuri mango is generally cultivated in south India and also popular in the western states like Gujarat and Maharashtra.

Neelam, Pan India

The mango variety of Neelam is cultivated in almost every part of India. However, the finest variety of Neelam is grown in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Although Neelam arrives very early in the mango season but the best type of this mango is available only from the second week June.

Dasheri, North India

Dasheri is a juicy variety of mango that is mostly grown in different parts of North India and countries like Nepal and Pakistan. This mango first appeared in the 18th century in the gardens of the Nawab of Lucknow. The mango is available from June and is very popular among the Mango lovers due to its sweet taste.

Himsagar, West Bengal

It is an exceptionally admired mango cultivar, which originated in West Bengal. It is the best among all mango cultivars in the world as per the taste and aroma. Its sweet aroma and musky sweet taste is simply amazing. This mango variety does not have any fiber and is usually medium-sized. Three fourth of each mango is pulp that makes it more popular.
