Krishna Janmashtami or Krishnashtami marks the birthday of Lord Krishna. The festival is celebrated with zeal at many places of India with great fervor. The temples are adorned superbly and celebration on this occasion takes place on a grand scale. The festival usually comes in last week of August or first week of September. On this occasion, people fast until 12 AM as Lord Krishna took birth at the stroke of midnight. On the occasion of Krishnashtami, you can find small kids getting attired like Radha Krishna.

Dahi-Handi or Matka-breaking is a prime activity that is enjoyed on this occasion by youth. Young men create tall human pyramids in the attempt of breaking the handi (pot) that is hung quite high. The group which manages to break the handi is winner of this activity. Other teams try to break the pyramids or distract the attention of the group by various activities.

Laxmi Narayan Temple (Birla Temple)

The temple is spread over an area of 7.5 acres and is one of the key attractions of Delhi. It attracts thousands of devotees on this occasion. The place can be reached by DTC buses, metro or personal vehicles.

ISKCON Temple

ISKCON stands for ‘International Society for Krishna Consciousness’ and it is an eminent temple of Lord Krishna and Goddess Radha. The temple was established in 1998 and is situated at Hare Krishna Hills, in the East of Kailash, New Delhi. At ISKCON, everyday is a celebration as you can witness there aarti on massive scale. However, Janmashtami is the grandest festival of the year for this temple. More than 8 lakh devotees visit the temple on this grand carnival. Festivities start here from early morning and continue till next morning. The temple can be reached easily by DTC buses, auto-rickshaws or your private transportation. Nehru Place Metro Station is the nearest metro station from this temple.

Chattarpur Mandir

Chattarpur Temple is one of the best temples of Delhi, which is spread over a huge area of 70 acres. The temple is built using white marble and features a wonderful structure. The festival of Janmashtami is celebrated here with a great dedication that turns the aura of temple religiously spiritual. The nearest metro station to reach the temple is Chattarpur Metro Station. One can also take DTC buses or private transports to reach there.

Akshardham Temple

Akshardham Temple is made of pink sandstone and marble and the main deity of this temple is Swaminarayan. The temple is an architectural marvel that awe people with intricate carvings and structural grandeur. On eve of Janmashtami, the temple is decorated beautifully and a massive celebration takes place. Huge number o devotees pay a visit to this temple on this occasion. Nearest metro station to reach this temple is Akshardham Metro Station.
