Day Tour To Islamic And Christian Cairo

This is definitely a to-do tour if you enjoy religious history

I had a great time on this tour mainly because Essam was a great guide. He always made sure I was okay and was having a good time. Temed (driver) was also great and made me feel safe on the road. Essam was very informative telling me about the history of the mosques and churches. He also gave me little gifts throughout the tour. LUNCH This is a buffet covered by the tour price, but you can pay extra for drinks. Assuming you go to the same restaurant I went to, I highly recommend the green soup (I forgot the name) as that was extremely tasty MARKET The tour ended at Khan el-Khalili where there are some old mosques. Note that you will get a lot of market stall-holders trying to get you in their shop, but it’s typical of a market. I ended up buying perfume oils and Essam helped me negotiate the prices :) If you have time, I do recommend using this opportunity to do your shopping with your tour guide (assuming they don’t mind and are comfortable being your negotiator). I also recommend wearing your sunglasses (even if the sun isn't shining) so you can look at things without the stall-holders noticing. Overall, this is definitely a to-do tour if you enjoy religious history. N.B. expect to take off your shoes every time you enter a mosque and cover your hair and shoulders (if you are a lady). I wore a t-shirt but had my shawl with me that I put on each time.

Great tour and tour guy Cairo city

Magdy is the best tour guy I was so happy with him because he is such a wonderful person and tour guy he knows the history and he explains everything with details and so friendly that he is Like a friend. I will recommend him 100%. And the driver very nice and with a friendly smile all the time. Magdy goes beyond expectations with his job. I had like 6 tour guys in Egypt but he was the best .

Ahmed Hamed and Esam - highly recommended

Full credits to Ahmed Hamed and Esam for two days of awesome tours. Did a day trip to Al Alamein and another day at the Citadel, Pyramids, and the Sphinx. Very professional service from the duo, flexible pickup and drop offs, very informative tours, allowance for last minute deviations, and very helpful. The tour of the coptic Centre’s were an eye opener as well as the synagogue but thoroughly enjoyed the citadel. Visited the German, Italian, and Commonwealth memorials as well as the museum, they were very helpful in gaining access to the sites even as they were closed. Highly recommend the pair for anyone in need of a tour of Cairo, it’s major sites as well as Al Alamein.

Lovely and safe

Ola our guide is fluent in three languages Arabic , Russian and English . She was very patient from the getgo. We weren’t able to make at our start time due to our kids not waking up in time but she and her driver were very understanding . She is very knowledgeable in Egyptian history. Gave us a very good tour we ended up learning a lot . We felt at ease with her . We did do some side shopping (never pressed to buy anything we didn’t want ) . We wanted some scarfs and she at the end took us there . Our driver Farag was well dressed (suited )and extremely professional. Strongly recommend Ola and Farag. The van was spacious and comfortable .

Really disappointing: late, uninformed, and more “aimlessly following” than actual tour guide

To start, they arrived late. I got a message at start time they would be 20 minutes late due to traffic. Traffic is a very accepted issue in Cairo, how did they not plan for this? The tour guide, Sayed, also continuously complained about the heat all day long. It was extremely annoying. If he wasn’t prepared for 90 degrees, he should not be an Egypt tour guide in the summer. It was hot, but I was completely fine. The Islamic Cairo portion of the tour was fine. He gave me base level information, not a ton of details, and was fixated with telling me “there are a lot of details in the architecture). I didn’t learn much but felt we covered it well. I was frustrated when he saw his buddy at the second stop and wanted me to stop and listen to a Quran reading (clearly for a tip for the guy), which I refused. Probably the worst tour I’ve ever had for Khan El-khalili and Coptic Cairo. For Coptic cairo, he gave me ZERO information. To say he wasn’t knowledgeable might be a compliment. He pointed out none of the very important fixtures or the sites including the viewing area of the hanging church, the Virgin Mary painting, the dark pillar, etc…luckily I had read about them in advance. Quite frankly; this was a bad tour. It got worse with Khan El Khalili. Our first stop was before Coptic Cairo, he walked me down one, wide street, with very few shops, telling me it’s better to see this part and not be busy. I told him that was absolutely not the experience I wanted at a busy bazaar and the point was to see the hustle and bustle there. He said we could come back later. We did, I almost wish we didn’t. I followed him around, through 3 dead ends, once he circled the same block twice, it was as if he had never been there before. I asked about the spices, he couldn’t explain them to me. Honestly, this tour was awful and Sayed was one of the worst tour guides I have ever had.

Classic tour by coptic Egyptologist

Authentic and knowledgeable tour of Orthodox Christian churches, Jewish synagogues and Muslim mosques. Tour was made extra special by surprise treats along the way and pit stops at Egyptian souvenir shops.

Amazing tour with Ehab hoba

Wonderful time exploring the Mosques and Churches in Cairo. Ehab was more than knowledgeable in everything and very nice. Definitely will recommend Emo Tours and Ehab to all of my friends.

Get ready to walk a lot and learn a lot!

Booked two tours: Islamic and Christian Cairo and the 2nd one was for Giza Pyramids, Memphis and Sakkara. Our tour guide on both days was Sayed Mahmoud. Sayed was pleasant and knowledgeable. There was a bit of a misunderstanding on two occasions (apparently the famous Khan el Khalili is not part of the Islamic and Christian Cairo tour even though it is mentioned in the itinerary, so we walked briefly through the bazaar at the end of day 1 after we questioned that, and although we expressed our interest in riding camels, we didn’t get a chance to ride on camels during the pyramids tour due to some miscommunication), nevertheless, Sayed was at the hotel at the agreed upon time & did his best to accommodate our wishes. He also went out of his way to bring us to a shop serving fresh sugarcane juice and dates, which was a nice touch. He also had a good sense of humor, which we appreciated, he was patient and assisted us in taking numerous photos. The highlight of the tour for me was getting to see the Pyramid of Teti, which we were able to explore with no one else around. The restaurant where we had lunch on both days was really good and we had a lot of food options (it’s close to the pyramids and I believe it’s called Valley of the Kings Restaurant). We did have a good experience and we learned a lot on those two days! I would just let people know to consider packing some snacks/eat a hearty breakfast because it is a long and demanding day. I would recommend Sayed Mahmoud if you are interested in the history of these sites.

Islamic and Christian Cairo tour

Today we had a very nice tour with the guide Maia and the driver Mahmoud. She was very patient and replied with ethousiasm to our many questions. We appreciated as well the perseverence in getting acces to some closed sites and the flexibility to our requests. Totally recommended. Many thanks.

Great tour

Great tour with Emo Tours. The Driver and Guide, Sayed were always available and kind. We made two tours with them, the Islamic Cairo and the Piramids and would definitely recommend.

Adel Hakem was my guide and he was excellent. He is very cultured and knowledgeable; he explained to me a lot of information in detail and was very attentive and kind. I loved his explanations while we were in this historical areas, everything became more meaningful. The driver was also very good. Great day!

New Year’s Eve Amazing surprise to end 2020!

Amazing tour guide. Has so much fun. Learned a lot about the culture. Took me to the best pure fresh sugarcane juice in the morning to start. After touring and learning all the culture, religions, and beautiful churches and mosques, Ola ended my New Year’s Eve with a bang. She took me to a fine dining traditional Egyptian lunch on a floating restaurant overlooking the River Niles. What else can one ask for when you try to find the best you can from this year of 2020! I was touched!

Fantastic

What can I say other than it was amazing. Ayman is not only extremely knowledgeable but also someone who is full of personality and very easy to get along with. All my questions were answered and he was very open to anything I wanted to talk about or took an interest in. Also, Muhammed is one of the best drivers Ive ever seen. Cairo roads are no joke and he made it look EASY! I will definitely reccomend Emo tours to all my friends, especially if its with Ayman and Muhammed.

Stellar tour guide

Tour was a wonderful combination of Christianity and Islam and our tour guide, Ayman Gabry, literally guided us through the mosques and old Christian places explaining in details and as an additional bonus lunch at local eatery which was an excellent choice by Ayman our appreciation to our amazing tour guide is beyond words definitely and highly recommended

Amazing time with Housam on the Islamic and Coptic Tour

I had this tour of the Coptic and Islamic Cairo with Housam and he is an excellent guide. I had a great time and learnt a lot about the history of this place and now consider myself educated. Housam was detailed , paced and gave me my free time and I managed to digest and take in the sights. The architecture is beautiful and this is a must do tour. Especially with Housam as your guide.

Fabulous tour way beyond our expectations

Ahmed Hamed was a kind and knowledgeable guide who gave us a wonderful time walking through Islamic and Christian Cairo, taking great pictures for us and showing us authentic food along the way. The arrangement was excellent, especially for those who would like an in-depth understanding of culture and history. Ahmed even went out of the way to arrange for us the sights and shops we would like to visit that are not part of the official itinerary. Would definitely recommend him for tours around Cairo and beyond!

We tried three tour guides in Egypt so far, and this one by Mr Ahmed Hamed is by no doubt the best. He has strong knowledge of Egyptian history and culture, which he explained it with clarity and lucidity. He also knows the local secrets well. I was looking to buy cartouches and he was able to get me a good price by bringing me to a upstairs wholesale shop in the downtown bazaar. Last but not least, he knows those hidden photo spots in every attraction where he took some very good photos of us! Definitely recommend this tour and tour guide for Cairo as well as the rest of Egypt.

Day in Cairo

We had a great day tour of Islamic and Coptic Cairo, with our guide Sayed Mahmoud and driver Ahmed. Sayed is very knowledgeable about Egypt history, and explained in detail all of the sites we visited. Overall it was a great experience.

Tour of Islamic and Coptic Christian sites & Day tour of Sakkara and Memphis

This is our first trip to Egypt. My wife and I booked all our guided tours through Emo Tours after reading the many positive reviews. I consider it pure fate that the tour guide provided to us during our stay in Cairo happened to be Maged. Maged took us around for two days and at the end of the two days, I had gained a new friend and brother. We had such a good time touring with Maged, that we changed our itinerary and we are going to Alexandria in a few days with Maged as our guide. Many people have provided raving reviews about Emo Tours and Maged, and my experience has proved those reviews to be accurate and trustworthy. If you plan to visit Egypt choose Emo Tours and if Cairo is in your travel plans ask for Maged as your tour guide. You will not be dissapointed.

Excellent tour with mamdouh kamal

Mamdouh Kamal was an excellent guide. We enjoyed a full day visiting Coptic Cairo churches and Islamic mosques. Mamdouh provided lots of interesting information. Rafat provided good driving services. A great day.

Brilliant guide - Sayed!

Our guide Sayed Mahmoud was awesome. He had so much information about Egypt & we learnt so much about the history of the areas we visited (Coptic & Islamic Cairo). He personalised our tour to suit us, made sure we were happy every step of the way & was the best photographer always making sure we got the perfect shop. Highly recommend visiting this part of Cairo with Emo Tours & in particular with Sayed as tour guide! Our driver was fantastic at navigating the crazy traffic too!

Excellent day tour of Islamic and Coptic Cairo

After having spent my first full day in Egypt visiting the pyramids, etc. on a full-day Emo Tour (see my review), I spent the second day on another full-day Emo tour of Islamic and Coptic Cairo (Old Cairo) with the same guide Ahmed (don’t know his full name) as on the previous day. Emo Tours apparently has several versions of this tour, and one I booked on Emo's own website included the Khan al Khalili bazaar. (I could not find that version on the Trip Advisor website today.) The car (comfortable and air conditioned) and driver were different from the first day. Ahmed took me to all the mosques and churches listed in the tour description and was very knowledgeable about every site. He explained various aspects of Islam, about which I had previously been ignorant. For lunch, he picked up on my interest in trying the Egyptian dish kushari (pasta mixed with chickpeas, lentils, onions, tomatoes, etc.) and took me to a local restaurant specializing in this dish. This hole-in-the-wall place with no English sign outside was patronized by only locals; it appeared dirty outside but clean (all stainless steel) inside. The kushari was delicious, and I had no health issues afterwards. I am grateful to Ahmed for taking me to this restaurant. After our late lunch we went to the Khan al Khalili souq (bazaar). Since it was Monday, some stores were closed and shoppers were probably less numerous than usual. After briefly looking around, Ahmed and I had mint tea at one of the tea shops lining the souq. My two days in Egypt as an independent solo traveler taking private guided day tours convinced me of the superiority of this touring style in countries such as Egypt where it is affordable to a middle-class tourist.

Great visit of Coptic and Islamic Cairo

We visited a lot of mosques and some churches with Essam. This is the second tour we did with him, as we requested him again after our first tour. Essam went out of his way to bring us to eat Egyptian pizza, which we requested. He also made sure that we always had water and snacks. We felt that we spent a good amount of time at each site. We enjoyed this tour and will recommend to friends!

Wonderful day trip with Ehab Hoba.

I had A wonderful experience with my tours with Ehab Hoba. He was very professional and knowledgeable. I learned And saw so much on my tour with him. He knows all the great spots for photos and videos too! We went to the pyramids, citadel, old Cairo and Khan al Khalili. His drives Youssef and Ahmad mazika were very professional and safe as well. I highly Recommend choosing them when going on your next tour!

Excellent tour to better understand "modern" Cairo's history

Ebrahim was such a brilliant guide! We visited the most important Islamic and Coptic sites of Cairo, his knowledge of each site was impressive. Good buffet lunch included in a local restaurant. This tour is highly recommended, to understand how Cairo developed beyond the time of the pharoahs. Pickup and dropoff were also exactly on time, despite the chaotic Cairo traffic!

What an amazing day with Ehab!

We had an excellent and informative experience learning about Coptic Cairo. We visited Garbage City, The Cave Church, Hanging Church, a few other churches as well as the Synagogue of Bani Ezra in Old Cairo. Essam in Cairo

We toured Cairo with Essam to the Islamic, Christian and Jewish destinations. He is very well informed regarding all of the locations we visited. He is currently continuing his English and Spanish language studies with tourism on the rise. We all thoroughly enjoyed his expertise and wish that we had more time to continue to tour.

Fantastic Experience with Olfat!

We booked this tour as we had already seen old kingdom Egypt and wanted to get an understanding of Egypt AD. Olfat was really helpful the entire day with some great insights into what we were seeing, particularly the mosques (which I had little understanding of). All buildings on the tour are well worth seeing for their architecture, their rich history and in some cases, the views of Cairo from their location. Olfat was particularly helpful in the old bazaar, where haggling is an art form which tourists aren't the best at! This tour is a must if you want the complete Cairo experience and if doing it with EMO, make sure to ask for Olfat.

Misleading information

We stayed at the Marriott Hotel and booked a tour through their guest services for a all day tour of the citadel and coptic and islamic Cairo. They used the American Express company.The tour guide spent 4 Hours with us instead of the full day. The price was double than it should have been. (2300 Egyptian pounds for 2 persons). Do not waist your time and money using this agency.

Fantastic experience!

Our tour guide, Mira Wagdy, was fantastic. She was personable and kind. She made the tour feel like it was tailored to us individually. She was approachable and welcomed any and all questions throughout the day. We left feeling like we had experienced a part of Cairo's history and gained a friend in the process. Very thankful to have met and toured with Mira Wagdy and used Emo Tours. Would not hesitate to book another tour with Emo Tours.

Christian and Islamic Cairo Tour with Omar!

We had a fabulous Cairo city tour focusing on the Islamic and Coptic Christian areas with Omar Mannaa. We first went to the Christian area and visited the Hanging Church and several other religious sites including the Ben Ezra Synagogue. We continued on to the Islamic area and visited three other mosques from different periods in Egyptian history. Omar was very knowledgeable and filled us in on the history and culture. We also spent time in the very impressive Citadel complex. Omar was great at fending off aggressive sellers and children trying to take pictures with us. Our final stop was the Khan Khalili Bazaar which was an interesting walk. For lunch we were given several options to chose from and ultimately ended up at a great shawarma spot. Our day was excellent all thanks to Omar and Emo Tours!

nous avons été impressionnés par l’âge des bâtiments , leur bon état de conservation et leur historique. Le chauffeur était ponctuel et le guide connaissant. Le repas du midi aurait pu être de meilleur qualité et le guide aurait pu éviter de proposer des activités hors programme (déjà chargé ) qui entraînent des frais supplémentaires.

Adoramos a nossa guia Mima, detentora de muito conhecimento. Ficamos maravilhados com esse passeio, conhecemos um pouco da cultura islâmica e ficamos impactados com a religiosidade e o tamanho das mesquitas. Passeio imperdível.

Ik heb vandaag een mooie toer gehad, ze haalden mij stipt op tijd op van het hotel. Hierna zijn we naar de citadel geweest waar ik een prima uitleg heb gekregen, hetzelfde geldt voor de tour door de islamitische wijk en de koptische wijk, steeds met een top uitleg. De chauffeur koos steeds de juiste weg waardoor we nooit last hadden van het drukke verkeer. Ook met een beetje geluk daar het de laatste dag van ramadan was. Ik raad de tour aan iedereen aan.
